What will they do? I've probably contacted them before. What I need is someone to go talk to the police for me and be some kind of representative for me.

I need $2500 for a lawyer. Someone has stolen my identity and emailed the police using my name to say I was going to hurt or kill my girlfriend, and we are both devastated. She has since lost her job because of other harassment like this and I am desperate to find out who did it.
The police think it's me and won't let me investigate this as identity theft, but I may be able to get it done now. I sent them several letters and talked to a lawyer who will help me but he is asking $2500 up front.
The last two months have been devastating while I've waited to fix this. I've been researching, my girlfriend is miserable, and I can barely sleep or eat. I'm in mental counseling because of the stress. This may be the end to our problems because she wants desperately to think I didn't do this, and only I can show that.
